Wall-phasing bony terrors in the pre-Hardmode Dungeon

Deep within the Dungeon after defeating Skeletron, the Cursed Skull glides effortlessly through solid bricks to ambush spelunkers. Because it ignores solid terrain entirely, it can glide out of unlit chambers and catch players off-guard. Contact with this floating skull inflicts the devastating Cursed debuff, temporarily preventing the victim from using any items, weapons, or tools for several seconds.

Surviving cursed locks and securing the Nazar

Getting struck while surrounded by angry skeletons often results in rapid demise due to the inability to retaliate or swing a pickaxe. Keeping a broad melee weapon or wide magic projectile active prevents skulls from closing in. Patient players farm them for the Nazar, which drops with a 1% rate and grants permanent immunity to the Cursed debuff. Skulls also occasionally yield Golden Keys (1.52%) and the Tally Counter (1%).

Trivia

  • The Cursed Skull is one of the few pre-Hardmode enemies capable of phasing through solid blocks.
  • The Nazar dropped by this enemy is a foundational ingredient for crafting the Ankh Charm.
