Crawltipede hunting and grounded survival
The Solar Pillar embodies the ferocious physical might of the warrior archetype, projecting an intense fiery aura across the biome where it lands. Floating high above the terrain, the pillar is protected by an impenetrable celestial shield that deflects all incoming attacks. The surrounding airspace is patrolled by the Crawltipede, a colossal flaming sky-centipede that serves as the primary executioner of airborne players. Crawltipedes ignore any target standing firmly on solid blocks. The instant you take flight on wings or leap into open air, nearby Crawltipedes screech and home in with devastating acceleration.
Ground discipline is the fundamental rule for surviving this zone. Constructing a modest bunker or staying rooted on solid earth negates the Crawltipede threat. If one does manage to target you, remember that its head and body segments are impervious to injury; only the glowing orb on its tail can take damage, receiving a massive 10x vulnerability multiplier that allows single-target strikes to eradicate it quickly.
Deflecting Selenian blades and burrowing Corites
The infantry supporting the Solar Pillar presents extreme threats even for well-armored adventurers. The Selenian is a two-sword alien duelist capable of performing a high-speed spinning dash. During this spin, the Selenian deflects player ranged projectiles, arrows, and bullets directly back at the sender. Firing high-damage weaponry indiscriminately into a swarm of spinning Selenians will often result in instant self-inflicted death.
Meanwhile, the Corite charges through solid stone blocks like a burning comet, ignoring terrain obstacles to ram players through walls. The Drakomire charges across the ground carrying an alien rider, leaving lingering trails of solar flames along the surface, while the Sroller curls into a spiky boulder and ricochets across the terrain at dizzying speed. Dealing with this onslaught requires weapons that strike through walls without firing deflectable projectiles, such as the Terra Blade beam or summoned minions.
Shattering the fiery lunar barrier
To expose the pillar to vulnerability, you must systematically defeat its defending minions within its territorial boundary. In Classic difficulty, defeating 100 celestial enemies shatters the protective ward; in Expert and Master difficulty, that threshold increases to 150 kills. Each slain monster releases an energetic soul streak that arcs upward into the shield, visibly cracking the energy sphere as the kill count nears completion.
Once the barrier shatters, the monolithic spire can finally be damaged directly. The pillar possesses 20,000 health across all difficulties and a base armor rating of 20. Although the pillar itself possesses 0 contact damage and remains stationary in the air, it defends itself by raining searing fireballs down onto nearby terrain. Focusing burst fire directly onto the exposed spire quickly brings down the pillar before additional ground forces can overwhelm your position.
Forging the Daybreak and Solar Eruption
Collapsing the Solar Pillar causes it to burst into a shower of celestial material, dropping 12–60 Solar Fragments at a 100% drop rate. Transporting these blazing embers to the Ancient Manipulator enables immediate crafting of premier melee weapons tailored to combat the impending final boss.
The Solar Eruption generates a piercing spiked whip-blade that extends through solid walls, striking multiple enemy segments simultaneously with intense lingering incinerate debuffs. In contrast, the Daybreak functions as a barrage of thrown solar javelins that impale targets, stacking up to eight spears that continuously detonate for heavy sustained damage. Once the Moon Lord is vanquished, extra fragments can be combined with Luminite to forge Solar Flare Armor, the ultimate defensive bulwark in Terraria.
Trivia
- Crawltipedes will ignore players as long as they are standing on solid ground or submerged in liquid.
- Selenians can reflect ranged bullets and arrows straight back at the player during their spinning animation.
- Unlike traditional bosses, the four Celestial Pillars remain stationary and do not possess contact damage.
