Alien Hornet lifecycle and gravity distortion
The Vortex Pillar dominates the domain of the ranged marksman, projecting a deep teal atmospheric glow across the sector of the world it claims. Floating high above the ground, it is shielded by an impervious celestial barrier that deflects all incoming projectiles until its extraterrestrial defenders are subdued. The primary airborne threat is the Alien Queen, a massive floating insectoid predator that shoots high-velocity green stingers.
Stingers from the Queen inflict the Distorted debuff, altering the player's gravitational equilibrium and causing your character to drift uncontrollably through the air. Even more dangerous is her reproductive cycle: slaying an Alien Queen spawns three Alien Hornets, each of which bursts into small Alien Larvae upon defeat. If these larvae are ignored, they rapidly mature back into adult hornets. Piercing ammunition, explosive arrows, or wide-radius splash weapons are vital for eradicating these multiplying nests before the airspace becomes congested.
Jetpack Storm Divers and lightning portals
Complementing the insect swarm are advanced cybernetic infantry forces. The Storm Diver is an agile elite soldier equipped with an aerial propulsion jetpack. Storm Divers hover at awkward angular sightlines, firing dense buckshot spreads from their energy shotguns that hit with heavy kinetic force.
Down on the ground, nimble Vortexians sprint forward while casting concentrated energy orbs. Slaying a Vortexian triggers an insidious death rattle: their collapsing bodies generate miniature spatial rifts that linger in the air, discharging tracking lightning bolts toward nearby players. Engaging this zone requires continuous lateral momentum on skyways or asphalt tracks, ensuring you never linger near recently slain ground troops where spatial rifts can crossfire you.
Penetrating the teal celestial ward
Lowering the spire's protective shielding requires eliminating 100 defending entities within the zone on Classic difficulty, or 150 kills on Expert and Master difficulty. Slain enemies release luminous cyan wisps that arc upward into the barrier, steadily destabilizing its harmonic structure until the dome shatters with a sharp cosmic echo.
Once the barrier crumbles, the pillar itself becomes vulnerable to direct attack. The structure maintains 20,000 health across all game modes, supported by an armor rating of 20. Although the pillar features 0 contact damage and remains completely anchored in midair, it periodically conjures environmental vortex rifts that lob lightning pulses down onto the terrain. Focusing high single-target DPS onto the exposed spire quickly brings the monolith down.
Assembling the Phantasm and Vortex Beater
Collapsing the Vortex Pillar showers the landscape with 12–60 Vortex Fragments at a 100% drop rate. Taking these luminous fragments to the Ancient Manipulator unlocks immediate crafting of endgame ranged armaments.
The Phantasm is a composite repeating bow that accelerates its firing rate as the trigger is held, generating supplementary phantom homing arrows upon landing successful hits. The Vortex Beater acts as a high-caliber Gatling rifle that fires wildly fast bullet streams punctuated by automatic homing explosive rockets. Combining leftover fragments with Luminite Bars after Moon Lord falls produces Vortex Armor, granting an active stealth mode that provides supreme ranged damage bonuses.
Trivia
- Alien Larvae will rapidly mature into Alien Hornets if they are not eradicated shortly after spawning.
- The Distorted debuff applied by Alien Queens temporarily suspends normal gravity, making jumping and falling sluggish.
- The Vortex Beater fires both standard ammunition and free explosive rockets without consuming additional rocket ammo.
