Challenging the automaton at the Lihzahrd altar
Guarding the grand sanctum at the bottom of the Jungle Temple, Golem is an ancient stone automaton powered by solar energy. To initiate the encounter, you must insert a Lihzahrd Power Cell into the Lihzahrd Altar situated in the central chamber. Power cells can be looted from temple chests or farmed from wandering Lihzahrds and Flying Snakes. Upon activation, the stone construct drops into the arena, presenting 15,000 health in Classic, 22,500 in Expert, and 28,688 in Master mode across its main body.
Historically, players could box Golem behind solid blocks to neutralize its attacks. In modern Terraria updates, the automaton leaps through solid temple tiles and aggressively pursues invaders, enraging if lured out of the temple environment. Fighting within the confines of the natural altar room requires disarming wire traps before the summon to avoid poison darts and spiky balls during combat.
Piston punches and bouncing fireballs
In its initial phase, Golem consists of four distinct attack components: the torso, the head, and two stone fists. The fists project outward on long mechanical chains, punching in swift piston thrusts whenever the player hovers at horizontal angles. Meanwhile, the head spits glowing fireballs that ricochet along the walls and floor, while its eyes emit piercing yellow lasers once its cranium sustains damage.
Defeating the fists is optional, but severing them removes the threat of sudden blunt-force interruptions. The body holds a base armor rating of 26, which absorbs incoming fire until you strip its components. Placing two or three rows of wooden platforms above the altar grants vertical clearance to hop over ricocheting fireballs while continuously raining fire onto the shoulders of the stone titan.
Detached cranial lasers and airborne fury
Once the head's health is completely drained, it detaches from the stone neck and takes flight as an autonomous floating entity. This flying head becomes invulnerable, phasing through solid blocks and circling the chamber while spewing a dense barrage of laser beams and bouncing fireballs. Down below, the headless body goes into overdrive, leaping aggressively around the room while dealing 72 base contact damage in Classic, climbing to 115 in Expert and 173 in Master mode.
All subsequent damage must now be focused on the jumping torso. Because the detached head constantly tracks your coordinates, stationary positions will lead to quick demise. Maintaining horizontal momentum, using wings to glide over the torso's leaps, and employing homing armaments like the chlorophyte bullet volley or razorpine bursts will bring the rumbling construct to a halt.
Harvesting Beetle Husks and ancient machinery
Shattering Golem yields 4–8 Beetle Husks, an essential crafting ingredient that fuses with Turtle Armor to forge durable Beetle Armor sets. It also drops the heavy mining Picksaw at 25%, which possesses sufficient mining power to break Lihzahrd Bricks and relocate the altar itself to a customized arena. Other iconic loot includes the Sun Stone at 14.3%, the Eye of the Golem at 14.3%, the homing Possessed Hatchet at 14.3%, the explosive Stynger at 14.3%, the Heat Ray at 14.3%, the Staff of Earth at 14.3%, and the Golem Fist at 14.3%.
Vanity and collection rewards include the Golem Trophy at 10%, the Golem Mask at 14.3%, and the Master exclusive Guardian Golem pet at 25%. Eliminating Golem triggers the arrival of mysterious cultist ritualists outside the Dungeon entrance and enables Martian Probes to spawn in the outer reaches of the world.
Trivia
- Deactivating or mining the Lihzahrd altar requires a pickaxe with at least 210% pickaxe power.
- Golem's fists bounce back when struck with heavy melee weapons, interrupting their forward punch cycle.
