Swashbuckling deckhand minions and coin collection
Obtained as a rare drop during the Pirate Invasion event from adversaries like the Pirate Captain, Flying Dutchman, Pirate Deckhand, and Pirate Corsair. The staff summons miniature pirate crew members that scamper across the ground, leaping at nearby hostiles to slash them with cutlasses. Dealing 40 base summon damage with 6 knockback, these ground minions occasionally knock loose bonus coins when hitting enemies, supplementing the player's economy during battle.
Grounded event clearing and mid-game summoner builds
With a base damage rating of 40, the pirates strike harder per hit than the Optic Staff or Blade Staff. However, because they must run and jump along platforms, they struggle against fast airborne bosses like Retinazer or Spazmatism. They excel instead during grounded event farming, Goblin Invasions, and Blood Moons where monsters funnel along flat surfaces. The optimal modifier is Ruthless, maximizing minion strike damage since summon minions gain little benefit from knockback or critical chance prefixes.
Trivia
- The summoned pirate minions appear in several visual variations, wearing different colored bandanas, pirate hats, or eyepatches.
- When falling behind the player across chasms, the pirates sprout ghostly parrot wings to glide through the air back to their master.
