Happiness: where it likes to live
| Biomes | Neighbours | |
|---|---|---|
| Loves | Goblin Tinkerer | |
| Likes | the Snow | Cyborg, Princess |

Town NPCs charge less when they are happy: the game lowers their prices for loved and liked biomes and neighbours and raises them for disliked and hated ones.

Prices are the base prices, before the happiness discount or surcharge. The conditions were found by running the game's own shop code in every world state, one and two at a time.

Freeing the captive engineer from dungeon halls
The Mechanic is the master of electricity, circuitry, and logic systems in Terraria. She cannot be invited to town until players conquer Skeletron and venture into the dark brick corridors of the Dungeon. Somewhere among the spiked traps and water candles, she will appear bound by heavy ropes as the Bound Mechanic.
Interacting with her cuts her bindings, freeing her to move into any vacant room on the surface. She boasts 250 life and 15 defense. When blood moon creatures attack her workshop, she defends herself by hurling sturdy mechanics wrenches at intruders with lethal precision.
Wiring spools, switches, and automated contraptions
Her arrival greatly expands options for builders and engineers, as she sells the foundational tools for all electrical logic. She provides Wrenches in four distinct wire colors to run overlapping circuits without interference, Wire Cutters to recycle circuits, and spools of Wire.
She also stocks Actuators that turn solid stone blocks incorporeal on demand, along with Switches, Levers, Timers, and Pressure Plates. Purchasing the Mechanical Lens or Grand Design from her parts enables players to see and manage complex electrical grids across the entire screen, allowing the construction of automated teleporter networks and automated monster farming traps.
Snowy engineering lab and wire spool economics
Wiring expansive boss arenas, teleporter networks, and automated trap chambers consumes thousands of wire segments. Inspect the preference table above for her detailed biome ratings and neighbor multipliers.
Housing her in a cozy snow cabin alongside the Goblin Tinkerer provides substantial price cuts on wire spools, wrenches, actuators, and booster tracks while enabling the Snow Pylon. Acquiring a Mechanical Ruler and Engineering Helmet from her store further assists in measuring accurate grid spacing during large-scale underground construction. Defeating hostiles near her home protects her, though her death drops the reusable Combat Wrench at 12.5%.
Trivia
- She wields a Combat Wrench in self-defense, throwing it like a returning boomerang at approaching monsters.
- Her inventory expands in Hardmode to include the Booster Track, Pressure Plate Track, and Teleporters.
