Summoning biome monstrosities with keys of night

Corrupt Mimics are colossal miniboss-tier abominations found deep within the Underground Corruption during Hardmode. Alternatively, players can summon one manually on the surface by crafting a Key of Night from fifteen Souls of Night and placing it into an empty chest. Possessing an intimidating 3,500 health pool in Classic (surging to 7,000 in Expert and 10,500 in Master), they are far tougher than standard mimics. Building a long platform arena and using swift wings or boots is essential to outpace their aggressive pursuit.

Surviving slamming charges and projectile reflection

In combat, the Corrupt Mimic alternates between massive vertical leaping slams, rapid horizontal charges dealing 90 contact damage (which climbs to 180 in Expert and 270 in Master), and snapping its lid completely shut. While closed, the mimic becomes completely impervious to harm and deflects incoming player projectiles directly back toward the attacker. Defeating this behemoth yields top-tier rewards: each mimic has an equal 20% chance to drop the Dart Rifle, Clinger Staff, Chain Guillotines, Putrid Scent accessory, or Worm Hook. They also guarantee stacks of 5–10 Greater Healing Potions at 100% and Greater Mana Potions at 100%, alongside the rare Eater of Life painting at 0.5%.

Trivia

  • Placing a Key of Night inside an empty chest in a Corrupt world immediately transforms the container into a hostile Corrupt Mimic upon closing the inventory.
  • During its closed-chest animation, the mimic reflects bullets and arrows back at the shooter.
